Cremation Services at Keeney & Basford

When any type of funeral arrangement discussion takes place, the funeral home is required by law to give you a general price list, which contains the current cost of each individual item and service offered. It must also contain information on embalming, containers for cremation and any other required purchase. Due to the many options when purchasing a funeral and to avoid confusion, we ask that you please contact us for any pricing questions. Cremation also requires the authorization from the legal next of kin. That would include in this order: the spouse, all children, both parents, all brothers and sisters, etc. A person may also sign a self-authorization for the funeral home to keep on file.

Cash Advance Items
Cash advance items are goods and services that are paid by the funeral provider on your behalf, such as a cemetery plot, flowers, obituary notices, pallbearers, and clergy honoraria. Some funeral providers charge you their cost for these items while others add a service fee to their cost. If a service fee is added, or if the funeral provider receives a discount, refund or rebate for these items, he must disclose this fact to you. The funeral home may require a down payment for the total of the cash advance items when making arrangements.
Cemetery Arrangements
Cemetery arrangements may also be discussed as well. These expenditures are treated as cash advance items by the funeral home. Some questions you should ask when deciding on a plot are:
  • Does the plot meet the requirements of your religion?
  • What restrictions are placed on the types of monuments and burial vaults?
  • Does the price include perpetual care and maintenance?
  • Are there other plots available in the same location to provide for the burial of the entire family?
Payment of Expenses
The funeral home will work with each family regarding payment of the funeral account. We will also help you with any claims that may need to be filed, including insurance benefits or V.A. Death Benefits.
