Pre-planning your funeral is not something you do for yourself; it’s something you do for your loved ones. It spares them from making emotional decisions—decisions that might not be consistent with your own wishes. Taking the time to address this matter leaves a legacy of thoughtfulness and consideration of your loved ones.
When you choose to make funeral arrangements in advance, it is helpful to have an idea about the following: ♦ What do I want?
♦ How much can I afford to pay?
♦ Are guarantees provided on merchandise and services?
♦ What happens if I move and want or need to change funeral homes?
♦ Are there tax consequences of funding pre-need arrangements?
♦ Are the fees I pay protected against inflation?

At a pre-need discussion, the funeral home is required to give you a general price list, which contains the current cost of each item and service offered. It must also convey information on embalming, cremation containers and any other required purchases.
The funeral home must also supply information on cash advance sales—that is, the goods and services that are paid for by the funeral provider on your behalf. These items may include the cemetery plot, grave opening and closing, obituary notices and clergy honoraria. If the funeral homes adds a service fee to these costs, or if they receive a discount, rebate or refund on these items, they must disclose that fact to you. Keeney & Basford Funeral Home P.A. neither adds a service fee or receives any discounts, rebates or refunds; instead, we pass the real cost for these items directly to you.
We will work with you regarding payment of the funeral account. We will also help you with any claims that may need to be filed, including insurance benefits or V.A. death benefits. |
