Mrs. Frici Brand, 99, of Frederick, MD (formerly of New Rochelle, N.Y.) died on Wednesday, November 7, 2018. She was the wife of Maxwell R. Brand, M.D., who predeceased her on June 2, 1995, after being married for 43 years. She is survived by her sons Steven (Patricia), Kenneth (Debbie) and grandchildren Andrea, Jonathan (Nicole), Jason (Grace) and Rachel.
She was predeceased by her sister Helen Borger in 2014.
Born June 16, 1919 in Czechoslovakia, she had three sisters. At about 20 years of age she and her sister Helen escaped the Holocaust in Europe, coming to New York City where they worked in the garment district as milliners and dress makers. Unfortunately the rest of her family perished in the Holocaust.
After marrying, Maxwell and Frici moved to New Rochelle, NY where they raised their two sons and lived for 32 years. Totally dedicated to the family she always provided encouragement and support to her husband and sons.
While devotion to her family took much of her time and effort, she was a self-taught artist who excelled at painting, sculpting and bead work. She will be remembered as a great cook, an artist, and a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.
The family would like to thank the staff at Somerford Place and Hospice of Frederick County for their compassionate care.
There will be a private service at the gravesite. A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Holocaust Museum, or Hospice of Frederick County.
