Mr. Robert (Bob) James Jr., of Frederick, Maryland, died Sunday, May 20, 2018 at his home.
He was the husband of Sara L. James, who preceded him in death Nov. 13, 2006.
Born January 28, 1925, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Robert James and Maude Nellie Hood James.
He moved to the 200 block of West Fifth Street, Frederick, in 1930, living there the rest of his life. He fondly remembered trolley cars and freight trains running down Fifth Street. He graduated from Frederick High School in 1942 and began his office equipment career at the Williams Typewriter and Supply Company. Later he and his wife opened James Office Machines Service Company in 1962, rebuilt the family business following the flood of 1976 and retired in 1994. He was a former member of the Frederick Church of the Brethren, attending as far back as when it was located on West Fourth Street.
He served in the U.S. Army in 1949 and 1950, stationed at the Pentagon.
He had many hobbies including woodworking and model railroading. He was charter and life member of the Frederick County Society of Model Railroaders. He was a former long-time member of the Frederick Civitan Club. He was an accomplished musician, playing the violin and trumpet. He played trumpet in the North End Civic Association Band, the Maryland Home Guard Band and the Clark Sheetenhelm Band.
He is survived by his son Charles A. James and wife Karen L. of Frederick; three sisters, Peggy Garst and husband Denton of Frederick; Doris Lenhart, of Thurmont; and Lois Remsberg and husband Robert of Woodbridge, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.
He will be remembered by dear friend and neighbor, Robert Miller.
In addition to his wife, and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Janis Louise James.
The family will receive friends from 5pm to 8pm, Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Services will be held from the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home, Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 1:00PM. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Hospice for their tender and loving care during his nine-month illness. Special thanks to staff members Jen, Ursala, and Keith.
