Colleen M. Remsberg passed away on May 6, 2018 at Homewood at Crumland Farm, Frederick, Maryland. Born on October 24, 1927, Colleen was a lifelong resident of Frederick. She was married to Earl E. Sittig from 1953 until his death in 1981 and Dr. A. Royal Remsberg, Jr. from 1983 until his death in 1995. She is survived by Susan Culler and Stephen Culler and his wife Carol and their children Riley, Lynlee, and Natalie; her stepdaughter Mary Louise English and her husband Ken; and her dear friend Nancy Cole. She was predeceased by a stepson, Richard R. Remsberg.
Colleen was a cosmetologist operating the Le Petit Salon beginning in 1946. In addition to being active in professional organizations, she was passionate about Frederick and historic preservation. She served on the Mt. Olivet Cemetery Board beginning in 1986 retiring as its Board President in 2016. She served on the Board of the Frederick Historical Society, serving as its president for 8 years. Additionally, over the years, she served on the Community Foundation of Frederick County, Frederick Historical Sites Consortium, Carroll Creek Commission, Greater Frederick Development Corporation and served in leadership positions for events such as the Forget Me Not Gala, Bell and History Days, Treasured Heirloom, Mt. Olivet Cemetery 150th Anniversary, and Beau Arts Gala among others. The many events she created and chaired for both Mt. Olivet Cemetery and the Historical Society brought both awareness and support to these organizations. For her selfless volunteerism, Colleen was conferred the 2010 Wertheimer Fellow for Excellence in Volunteerism by the Community Foundation of Frederick County.
Colleen had a lifelong love of art and was an accomplished artist herself. In addition to using these skills in creating images used both for Bell and History Days and at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Colleen shared her art and quilting work with a wide group of friends and family. She was a member of the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center, Frederick Arts Council, Apple Valley Painters, and Frederick County Arts Association.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 18 from 4 to 6:30 pm at Key Memorial Chapel, Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery Mausoleum. Interment to immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in memory of Colleen may be made to The Colleen Remsberg Memorial Fund at The Community Foundation of Frederick County.
