Kenneth Sander

August 25, 1941 — February 12, 2018

Mr. Kenneth George Sander, 76, of Frederick, died Monday, February 12, 2018 at Heartfields of Frederick.

Born August 25, 1941 in Evansville, IN, he was the son of the late Edward and Juliana (Schweikert) Sander.

After graduating from Evansville College in 1962 with a B.S. in business, he moved to the Washington, D.C. area and took a position with the federal government. He completed additional graduate work in economics at the University of Indiana and MIT, and subsequently spent most of his career as an economist at the Social Security Administration in Woodlawn, Maryland, from which he retired in 1999.

Kenneth had an intellectual curiosity that spanned many interests, including history, science, and classical music. He was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether visiting a state or national park, watching birds, or working in his garden.

He is survived by his children, Jane Collins and husband Jim, of Chelmsford, MA; Jonathan Sander and wife Tammy, of Frederick; Juliana Sedgley and husband Matthew,  of Frederick; and Emily Sander, of Savannah, GA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christopher Sander, Edith Collins, Lovinia Collins, Astrid Collins, Celia Sander, Gwyneth Sander, Edward Sedgley, and Ivan Sedgley, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his significant other of many years, Elaine Parker, of Baltimore.

In addition to his parents and wife, Peggy, who died in 1981, he was preceded in death by his son, Edward Sander, and brother, Wayne Sander.

A memorial service will be held 11:00AM, Saturday, February 17, 2018, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 31 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701 .  Inurnment will follow at the Evangelical Lutheran Church Columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Park Service c/o Superintendent, Antietam National Battlefield, P.O. Box 158, Sharpsburg, Maryland 21782 or a local bird or wildlife conservation organization of your choice.
