E. Beale Herndon

August 24, 1944 — January 28, 2018

Mr. Edwin Beale Herndon 73, of Frederick and formerly of Virginia, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara Shreve Herndon. Born in Norfolk, Virginia on August 24, 1944, he was a son of the late Maurice Gordon and Florence Jane Beale Herndon.
Beale graduated from Groveton High School in Fairfax County, VA and received his bachelor of Arts degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, KY.
Beale spent many years as a golf pro, having started at a young life and made a career of golf. He was a co-owner of the Country Road Family Golf Center, near Frederick and spent countless hours at the Clustered Spires Golf Course in Frederick, where he played, worked as a starter and made many friends. Beale was described as a man of honesty and integrity.
Surviving in addition to Barbara, are several nieces, and many friends including John and Sallie Hammond, of Frederick and Diane Gussie, of Mt. Airy, brother-in-law, Walter Shreve and wife, Jeanne and their daughter, Robyn, of Lavale, MD and sister-in-law, Judy Dean, of Ridgeley, WV. He was preceded in death by his brother, M. Gordon Herndon.
A celebration of Beale's life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, MD. A memorial plaque will be put on the putting green at Clustered Spires where Beale enjoyed hours of putting.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Youth Golf Camps, in C/O Scott Peterson, Clustered Spires Golf Course, 8415 Gas House Pike, Frederick, MD 21701.
