Eileen Marie Sorenson

June 25, 1935 — December 2, 2017

Eileen Marie Sorenson, age 82, of Frederick, passed away peacefully with her children by her side on December 2, 2017. She was born on June 25, 1935 in Manchester, Iowa to the late Vernon and Hilda Schuchmann (Nee Martens).

Eileen was dedicated to her faith. She played an active role in building new Lutheran churches in Margate, Florida, Melville, Long Island, and Centerville, Virginia. Whether through her church, workplace or community, Eileen was committed to service and helping others. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and the Bethel Bible Series in her churches: served on the PTA, Meals-on- Wheels and as Cub Scout Leader and enjoyed singing in the church choirs and Huntington Choral Society. Eileen received an award for distinguished service from Northern Virginia Community College for her leadership and expertise in benefits administration from 1979 to her retirement in 2011 and was Classified Staff Emerita in 2012.

Some of Eileen interests included music and the fine arts, travel, reading, playing bridge and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also had a love for her pets, including Golden Retriever, Gracious and West Highland Terrier, Starsky.

Eileen is survived by her children Andrew Sorenson and his wife Cindy, Jeff Sorenson and his wife Christen, and Ann Johnson and her husband Paul; her grandchildren Andrew, Luke, Blake, Tate, Tiffany, Shaniya, Chase, and Kannin; her sister Deleva Stevenson, brother-in- law Don Cleven and many nieces and nephews . In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sister Maxine Cleven.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
