Barbara Ann Rice, 80, of Frederick, MD, passed from this life peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, November 24, 2017. Born on April 4, 1937 in Utica, MD, she was the daughter of the late Albert Franklin Klipp & Mabel Catherine Baer Klipp.
She was the wife of 60 years to Edward Eugene Rice.
Barbara graduated from Frederick High School in 1955. She worked for Jenkins Brothers Cannery in Frederick and Todd Steel in Point of Rocks before starting her secretarial career job in the federal government for the Department of Energy. She was employed at AEC/DOE from 1962 – 1992. Discovering a love for travel, she transitioned into a second career by starting her own travel business, Barbara Rice Tours, which extended 28 years.
She was active in Cloverhill Homemakers for many years, a member of Faith United Church of Christ and also attended Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Barbara/Barb/Barbarann was a good friend to so many. She lived her entire life in Frederick county but traveled the world and took many friends along with her. Barbara was very social, incredibly thoughtful, an organized, dedicated, and passionate hard worker and she loved her family and friends dearly. She had a great sense of humor, was always ready to have fun, had a beautiful smile and a distinctive and hearty laugh.
Aside from her family and friends, Barbara’s greatest passion was her travel business. She loved to plan and travel to places around the globe and encouraged many to seek out new destinations and join her on these journeys. She was a master of detail and made every experience, from day trips to 3-week tours, as impeccably rich, thorough, and exciting as possible. Barbara had a way of making everyone feel welcome and comfortable and always encouraged a fun-loving atmosphere with her groups.
Barbara was a loving mother to one daughter, Pam Ritmiller and her husband Mike of Frederick, MD. Grandmother of Will Ritmiller of Fairfax, VA and Hannah Ritmiller of Portland, ME. She is also survived by three sisters, Mildred Eichelberger of Frederick, MD; Sherry Beeson and husband David Beeson of Jefferson, MD and Joan Klipp of Briarcliff Manor, NY and one sister-in-law, Virginia Moser of Thurmont, MD. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins and many lifelong dear friends and traveling companions. She will also be dearly missed by her cat Chloe.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the compassionate care Barbara received while at HeartFields in Frederick, MD and to the kind and devoted caregivers and staff at Right At Home and Second Family for their years of in-home caregiving.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 5:00PM on Sunday, December 3rd at Keeney & Basford Funeral Home,106 East Church Street, Frederick, Maryland. A celebration of Barbara’s life will take place at 11:00 am on Monday, December 4th, at Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, Maryland.
Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick, MD.
