Born on November 5, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Eleanor (Bell) Miller. Ruth was a former member of the AARP and AARP Chapter #636, The Women’s Democratic League and “Learning in Retirement” at Frederick Community College. She was a member of “FMH Senior Living” at the Frederick Regional Healthcare Systems. Ruth retired from J.C.Penny after 18 years. She was formerly employed as a teacher for the Adult Education Division of the Frederick County Board of Education and Frederick Community College. She also worked for SRI, a contractor at Fort Detrick until her retirement at the age of 85.
Ruth is survived by one daughter, Sharon Hartsock and her husband Larry; one son, Martin Nikirk; one grandson, Shawn Hartsock and wife Judi; one step-daughter, Mary Beck and husband Clem, and several grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death in April of 1945, by her brother, Thomas Miller.
All services will be private. Chaplin Suzanne Morris assisted the family in a private graveside service held earlier this week at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
