Richard Metcalf

May 11, 1927 — September 18, 2017

Mr. Richard Moulton Metcalf, 90, of Braddock Heights, died Monday, September 18, 2017 at his residence.  He was the husband of Virginia (Nicodemus) Metcalf for 69 years.

Born May 11, 1927 in Washington D.C., he was the son of the late Kenneth and Olive (Moulton) Metcalf.

Richard served in the US Navy aboard many ships in the South Pacific, Japan and China Seas during WWII.  He worked for the Frederick County Board of Education as a Master Electrician for 26 years.  While his sons were growing up, he worked with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Richard was a life time member and former president and chief of the Braddock Heights Volunteer Fire Company number 12. He was also an active amateur radio operator (Call Sign WA3GDC) for over 50 years. Richard was a lifelong member of Calvary United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his children, William K. Metcalf and wife Dawn, Donald R. Metcalf and wife Martha, Cathy A. Knear and husband Paul and Paul M. Metcalf and wife Kim, grandchildren, Emilie Martin and husband Dan, Andrew Metcalf and wife Deborah, Joseph Metcalf and wife Meghan, Micah Metcalf and wife Emily, Benjamin Knear and wife Emily and Lindsay McCauslin, 8 great-grandchildren, sister, Joan Metcalf Brust, numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00AM, on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 515 S. Market Street, Frederick, MD 21701.  Those wishing to attend will meet at the FSK Chapel in the cemetery.  Rev. Dr. Steve Larsen, pastor of Calvary UMC will officiate. Following the burial there will be a gathering, with light fare, at Calvary UMC.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be shared to Calvary UMC, 131 West 2nd Street, Frederick, MD 21701.
