Mrs. Virginia Elizabeth Zimmerman, 97, of Frederick crossed over into Glory on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Kline Hospice House. She was the wife of the late Howard V. Zimmerman, Jr. who predeceased her in 2005. At the time of his death they had been married for 67 years.
Born in Frederick County, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late James Curtis Franklin and Alverta Weddle Brashears. She spent most of her life in Frederick County.
At age 17, she met and married Howard Zimmerman, being introduced by his cousin Charlotte Ausherman.
She was employed from 1936-40 with Frederick Tailoring. For a short time in the 1940s, she and her husband operated a store in New London. For many years she was a homemaker and farmer's wife. She was later employed at J. M. Bucheimer Company until her retirement.
Virginia was a member of Frederick Church of the Brethren for 80 years. She was an active member of the Homebuilders Class and the Women’s Fellowship and Service Guild.
She traveled with her husband and friends through many states and parts of Canada.
Surviving is her son, Phillip H. Zimmerman and his wife Mary of Frederick; three grandchildren, Tina Trezza and husband Vincent, Shawn Zimmerman and wife Margaret, Aimee Kelly and husband Jeremiah, grandson-in-law, Brennan Garrett and wife Carol Anne; and 12 great-grandchildren, Angelo and Dominic Trezza; Adler and Zane Garrett; Rachel, Abigail, and Chase Zimmerman; Lillian, Rhiannon, Isaiah, Elias, and Abram Kelly. She is also survived by one brother, Carroll August Brashears and one sister-in-law, Mildred Brashears. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by one granddaughter, April Garrett, and four brothers, Alvin Franklin, James Bernard, Earl Thomas, and Gene Maynard Brashears; and one sister, Annabelle Edna Brashears.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 pm, on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701.The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, on Friday, June 23, 2017, at the Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Avenue, Frederick, MD 21701. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
