William Benjamin Shreve

August 24, 1922 — June 15, 2017

William B. Shreve, Bill, of Adamstown, MD passed away at the age of 94 on June 15th, 2017 at the Northampton Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on August 24, 1922 at home on the farm in Dickerson, Maryland and was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson Shreve and Claudia Estella Heffner Shreve. He graduated from Poolesville High School where he was active in FFA.

He was predeceased by his wife M. Alice Michael Shreve, sister Louise Shreve Whorton, and his two brothers, Earl Thomas Shreve, Sr. and Edward Bernard Shreve.

He was a brick and block mason for most of his working life. He and his late wife Alice owned and operated Shreve's Grocery Store in Adamstown for almost 30 years. After they sold the store, Bill went to work at County Market, now Giant Eagle for 12 1/2 years. He  was known by most people as 'Mr. Bill', and he enjoyed talking to and helping customers.

He was a charter member of the Carroll Manor Fire Co. since its inception in 1953. Bill laid the cornerstone and helped build the fire station in Adamstown. For years he helped the fire company with butchering, the carnival and the food tent at the Great Frederick fair. He belonged to the Carroll Manor Grange, and the Eagles and Moose clubs for many years. He enjoyed collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia along with football and baseball cards. He enjoyed watching most sports on TV, especially the Washington Redskins during football season.

He is survived by daughter Mary L. Shreve Milner and her husband Jim of Adamstown, MD and Block Island, RI.  as well as nieces, nephews, and special friends Connie Danner, Grace Rowland, and Jerry Grossnickle.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm, on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. The funeral will be held at 11:00AM, on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel at the funeral home. Pastor William Carpenter will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
