Gregory Martin Kelly of Buckeyestown, Maryland died unexpectedly on April 28, 2017. Longtime resident of Frederick County, he was a member of the 1968 graduating class of Frederick High School. Gregory was self-employed in home construction with a special interest in the restoration of old homes. Despite being one of ten children and growing up in a large family, Gregory charted his own course in life, as a solitary man at times, but with a network of friends and family. He had a knack for figuring out mechanical and structural challenges with ingenious solutions; he was an inventor at heart. Gregory was a member of the US Navy during the Viet Nam War and served on board the USS Saratoga. Gregory was as an aviation structural mechanic with a specialty in hydraulics. For his service during the Viet Nam War he received a Navy Unit Commendation for exceptional meritorious service.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Mary A. Kelly and Fern Y. Hunt of Silver Spring, Margaret M. Kelly, Paula M. Kelly, Mark A. and Suzi Kelly, Agnes M. and Mark Heller, Anthony J. Kelly and Teresita M. and Gene Lemar all of Frederick, MD, and Kevin M. and Mary Hope Kelly of Middletown. Extended family members include Thelma Dorsey, Clyde Finley, and John and Mary O’Malley. Gregory is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews and 13 great nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Harry and Teresita Kelly and sister, Katherine M. Finley.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph -on- Carrolton Manor on Friday, May 5 at 11 AM in Buckeyestown, Maryland. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
