Frances Anne Edelen

Frances (“Fran”) Anne Edelen, 69, of Urbana, Maryland, died on March 18, 2017, surrounded by loved ones. The family will receive friends from 4 pm to 8 pm, on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM, on Friday, March 24, 2017, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Road, Ijamsville, MD 21754. Father Michael Jendrek will officiate. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD.

Fran’s endeavors were numerous and varied. She was an art teacher for more than ten years. She was a gifted musician who sang and played the drums in several ensembles. She was an avid photographer. A polio survivor who battled a life-long disability, Fran pioneered initiatives that promoted diversity and inclusiveness in the workplace during her 30-year career with the federal government. She was a devoted Catholic whose faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a zealous fan of all things Disney.

Fran was loved and admired by many, and she played a variety of roles in the lives of those who knew her—including cousin, sibling, aunt, “auntie”, colleague, neighbor, friend, godmother, and “fairy godmother.” Although her adventures took her near and far, Fran was happiest spending time with family, friends, and neighbors at her home in Urbana, Maryland, or at her time share in Disney World.  She is survived by her brother, Gregory, an extensive list of godchildren, and thousands of family and friends.
