John Henry Smith

Mr. John Henry Smith, 90, of Keymar, died Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Fern Virginia (Hood) Smith.

Born July 3, 1926, in Libertytown, he was the son of the late John L. and Jessie (Kershaw) Smith.

John enjoyed his military career retiring after 20 years of service. He was a life member of the FSK American Legion and the Sykesville Fire Department. In his spare time, he volunteered with Meals on Wheels.

John is survived by his daughter-in-law, Maryanne Keeney, brother, Paul Smith and wife Neshay, sisters, Anova Rice and Cora Knight, nephew, John E. Smith, granddaughters, Sarah Malizak and Clara Ann Szczechura, 4 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his step-son, James Keeney, brothers, Lee Smith, Sam Smith and Winfield Smith and sisters, Mary Whitmore and Elizabeth Myers.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7pm, on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. The funeral service will be at 10:00AM, on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 in the Etchison Memorial Chapel at the funeral home. Deacon Kim Hintzman will officiate. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
