Mary Louise Keegan, 90, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away peacefully the evening of November 19 at Glade Valley Nursing Center. She had been in declining health for several months. Ms. Keegan was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 17, 1926, daughter of Simon and Sadie Keegan. She graduated from James Madison High School in Brooklyn and Hunter College of the City of New York. She served as a dedicated and revered Home Economics teacher in the New York City public schools from 1947 to 1982. In 1995, she moved to Frederick to be closer to her family. She was preceded in death by her younger brother Richard. She is survived by her sister-in-law Eleanore Louise Keegan, her nieces Sarah, Mary Catherine and Elizabeth, her nephews Richard and James, and seven grand nieces and nephews and one great-grand nephew. She was beloved “Auntie” to all of them, and she showered them with kindness and generosity. She was a devout member of Good Shepherd parish in Brooklyn and St. John the Evangelist parish in Frederick. Viewing will be at Keeney & Basford Funeral Home in Frederick on Monday November 28 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM. The funeral Mass will be at St. John the Evangelist Church in Frederick on Tuesday, November 29 at 10:00 AM. After the funeral those who wish to accompany the family can proceed to Sacred Heart Cemetery in Bushwood, MD (St. Mary’s County) for the burial and a fellowship meal. The family requests that donations in lieu of flowers be made in her memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
