Elizabeth Cassell

Mrs. Elizabeth Louise "Betty Lou" Cassell, age 89 of Frederick passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Homewood at Crumland Farms. She was the wife for 54 years of the late Private First Class William D. Cassell who passed away in 2001. Born on December 23, 1926 in Philadelphia she was the daughter of the late Lewis J. and Susan Elizabeth (O'Neill) Dumont.

Betty Lou worked in service jobs in Pennsylvania and Florida as a sales clerk, camp cook and daycare worker before retiring in Crewe, Virginia. After her husband's death she moved to Allentown, Pennsylvania and then later to Dickerson, Maryland to live with family members. She was an avid reader, gardener and crafter who loved spending time at the beach. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of VFW Post 7819, Crewe, Virginia. Locally she was a member of the Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ.

Mrs. Cassell is survived by her four children, Ave Maria Barr and husband Clifford of Frederick, MD, Suanne Scarano of Nottoway, VA, William H. Cassell of Titusville, FL and Jeremy O. Cassell of Palm Bay, FL, 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Philip Dumont and wife Diana of Cranbury, NJ and sister Nancy Turner of Milton, DE.

A memorial service and interment will be held at a later time in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia, VA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ building fund, 15 W. Church St., Frederick, MD 21701.
