Kathleen Ann Colgan

February 25, 1928 — July 17, 2016

Mrs. Kathleen Ann (McCabe) Colgan, 88, of Country Meadows of Frederick and formerly of Hershey, Pa., died Sunday, July 17, 2016. Her husband William L. Colgan, to whom she was married for 61 years, died in 2013.

Born on Feb. 25, 1928, in Milwaukee, Wis., she was the daughter of the late John B. and Mary Ellen (Coonan) McCabe.

Kaye grew up in Chicago and earned a degree in journalism from Marquette University in 1950, graduating with honors. It was there that she met her husband, Bill. They were married in 1952 and had seven children. Kaye devoted her life and energies to raising those children, but also found time to pursue her talents in painting, sewing and decorating. She also enjoyed traveling the world and encouraged her children to see and experience new places and opportunities.

She was a true lady, in manner and style, and was known for her beautiful clothes and appearance. Graced with a quick Irish wit, she often jokingly attributed her youthful appearance to her "life of leisure spent raising seven kids." Kaye was a devout Catholic who drew great comfort from her faith and was fiercely proud of her Jesuit education.

Kaye is survived by her children, Michael Colgan and wife Lori, of LaCrosse, Wis., Kevin Colgan and wife Barbara of Spring Lake Heights, N.J., William P. Colgan and wife Victoria of Fort Worth, Texas, Maureen Posner and husband Stephen of Springfield, Mass., Sheila Colgan of Minneapolis, Minn., Kate McDermott and husband Kevin of Frederick, Md., and Timothy Colgan and wife Amy of Dillsburg, Pa., sister, Nancy Daleiden of San Antonio, TX, and 16 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2016, at St John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 E. 2nd St., Frederick, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. with Father Kevin Farmer officiating. Interment will be at St. John's Cemetery, Frederick.

The family wishes to extend its deepest gratitude to the loving and generous staff of Country Meadows. Their kindness and warmth will never be forgotten. Thanks also to her caregivers from Hospice of Frederick County, who are truly angels on earth. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
