Norman Dutrow Jr.

September 9, 1921 — July 11, 2016

Mr. Norman Lewis Dutrow Jr. of Rocky Springs, known affectionately as “Pappy”, died July 11, 2016 at Somerford House Assisted Living in Frederick. He was the husband of his devoted wife Margaret Clem Dutrow of 62 years. The family would like to thank the staff at Somerford House for the loving care and attention they provided Norman and his family.

Norman was born in Frederick, September 9, 1921, the son of the late Norman Lewis Dutrow Sr. and Mary Catherine Kemp Dutrow on the family farm and spent his early years as a farmer.

He was a graduate of Frederick High School Class of 1941. Woodworking was his life’s work. Norman was employed for 45 years at the Frederick Iron and Steel as a pattern maker and used his exceptional skills as a master cabinet maker building furniture that many continue to cherish and enjoy. He was a US Army veteran of WWII stationed in Kobe, Japan. He was a member of the American Legion Post #11 and the Frederick Moose Club. He belonged to the Bethel Lutheran Church. Norman loved his family but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling.

In addition to his wife he is survived by son Lewis C. Dutrow, daughter Rueyann N. Stottlemyer, daughter- in- law Elizabeth A. Dutrow, and granddaughters, Jessica G. Stottlemyer, Eliza J. Stottlemyer, and Ava R. Dutrow. Many nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his sisters Eloise Long and Evelyn Cutsail and brother Melvin H. Dutrow. Sister- in- law Ann Dutrow and brothers-in-law Preston Long and Roy Cutsail also preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends from 2-4pm & 6-8pm on Wednesday, July 13th, 2016 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. The funeral service will be held at 11am on Thursday, July 14th at Bethel Lutheran Church, 9664 Opposumtown Pike, Frederick, MD. Pastor Karin Albaugh will officiate. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church at the above address or to Hospice of Frederick County, PO Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
