Shirley Ann (Smith) Favorite, 85, passed away on June 27, 2016 at Dove Hospice House. She was the loving wife of Morris Franklin Favorite.
Shirley was born on October 8, 1930, and was the daughter of the late Earl Leo Smith and Mary Ruannah Engle Smith. She attended New Market Elementary School and graduated from Frederick High School. She attended beauty school in Baltimore to attain a cosmetology license and practiced the trade for over 60 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Jonathan David Favorite and three grandsons: Sean, Ryan and Quinn. She is survived by siblings, Barbara Ruannah Main and husband B.D. Rosen, and Nancy Lee McCartney; brothers-in-law, Donald Elliot, Sr. and Scotty Silvers; and many nieces, nephews.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her siblings, Earl Leo Smith Jr., and wife Elva, Pauline Boone and husband Harry, Margaret Elliott, Charles Edward Smith and wife Nancy, Mary Frances Deater and husband Harry (Jim) and Jean Silvers.
Shirley loved to travel to the many historical sites in the 50 states, including Hawaii and the Caribbean. She maintained many scrapbooks and loved to take pictures. She loved and supported her husband, son and three grandsons. She appreciated her family and friends and served them well. She served in many leadership rolls within the church and the Gideon’s International Auxiliary and the Hairdresser Association. At one time she owned and operated two beauty salons and established herself as a successful business woman. Shirley exceeded all expectations as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8pm on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, Maryland. The funeral service will be held at 10am on Saturday, July 2 nd at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
A memorial service will also be held in Hampstead on Saturday, July 2 nd at 5pm at Grace United Methodist Church, 4618 Black Rock Rd., Upperco, MD 21155. People are welcome to greet the family at the church at 4pm before the Memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Shirley’s honor to the church.
