Mr. William Henry Main, Jr, 92, passed into the arms of the Lord on June 6, 2016 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Catherine Main, his wife of 69 years.
Henry was born on April 27, 1924, oldest child of the late William and Flora Main, and with his ten brothers and sisters grew up on West Fifth Street. He graduated from Frederick High School, Class of 1941 and was a military veteran serving in World War II, and saw overseas service including the Battle of the Bulge, with Patten’s Third Army. After his tour of duty, he worked for J.C. Penney’s in Salem, NJ, as well as the Penney’s on North Market Street, Frederick, before joining the staff at the Frederick News-Post, where he worked for 38 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge, No 684, and the FSK Post 11, American Legion. In his spare time he enjoyed building bird houses and feeding the many birds and squirrels in his yard. He also enjoyed traveling to many states out west especially seeing Mount Rushmore and spending weekends in New York City to see Broadway shows.
Besides his wife, he is survived by daughter, Cathy Edwards; one sister, Ruth Shafer; three brothers, Herb Main, Bud Main and Bob Main; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Main; three sisters, Anna Valentine, Edna Younkins, Eleanor Magaha; three brothers, Paul Main, Jim Main and Eddie Main.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 10, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 703 W. Patrick St., Frederick where funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 11 AM. The interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. Rev. Lynn Wilson will officiate.
