Beatrice Mae Shuff

March 17, 1919 — April 12, 2016

Mrs. Beatrice Mae Shuff, age 97 of Frederick passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Montevue Assisted Living, Frederick. She was the wife of the late Charles William Shuff, Sr. for 52 years who passed away in 1988. Born on March 17, 1919 in LeGore she was the daughter of the late Elmer E. and Bertha M. (Gerrich) Long.

Mrs. Shuff was a Sunday school teacher serving both the Pleasant Hill Church, Yellow Springs and the Faith United Church of Christ in Charlesville where she was currently a member. She helped with the church suppers and was a Lay Reader.

She was a demonstrator and manager for Toy Ladies Party for 23 years ending in 1989.

Mrs. Shuff was a member and past president of the Montevue Auxiliary and also a member of the Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary from 1989-2006. Her volunteer work at Frederick Memorial Hospital was in the ICU for several years then in November of 1999 she joined the Family Center where she was known as "Grandma" to the nurses in that section. She also worked from her home assembling educational materials for the Baby Best Breast Feeding Program.

In 1993 she was chosen by the Jaycees as the outstanding Senior Citizen for her work with the American Cancer Society assisting patients going for treatments. She was the Transportation Coordinator retiring in 1999 after a decade of service.

She was very interested in the accomplishments of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, both at school and in Sports. She attended their events as much as possible.

Mrs. Shuff is survived by her children, Patricia Ann Schoonover and husband Eugene of Frederick, Nelda Louise Burdette and husband Lewis of Damascus, Doris Jane Way of Walkersville and Charles W. Shuff, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Frederick; her grandchildren Anita Fraley and husband Michael of Union Bridge, Marcia Bell and husband Gary of Lewistown, Debra Dreisonstok and husband John of Walkersville, Keith Schoonover and wife Lori of Myersville, Allan Schoonover and wife Betsy of Boonsboro, Camille Havelka and husband Michael of Cypress, TX, Suzanne O'Hara and husband Steve of Cypress, TX, Charles W. Shuff, III and wife Meri of Chicago, IL, and Pamela Van der Meulen and husband Scott of Keymar; her step grandchildren Christine Boston of Thurmont and Randall Burdette and wife Judy of Fort Garland, CO. She is additionally survived by numerous great-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and step great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Shuff is preceded in death by her son Robert E. Shuff, her son in law Andrew Way, her sisters Ruth E. Singer and Evelyn E. Zimmerman and her brothers Elmer E. Long, Jr and Preston E. Long.

Friends will be received on Sunday, April 17, 2016 from 2-4 and from 6 to 8 PM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick where services will be held on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 11 AM. Rev. Katie Penick will officiate. The burial will follow at the Lewistown Cemetery.
