Anne Mcguire Elkins

Anne McGuire Elkins, a long time Frederick resident, and an eleven-year resident of Buckingham’s Choice, died on March 21, 2016.

She was born on November 30, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY to Florence Huntington and Harry McGuire. Anne attended public schools in NY and graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore. Anne married Joseph Elkins, Jr, in September 1945. They celebrated 60 years of marriage prior to his death in 2005.

She worked as an RN for ten years, and then joined her husband in the operation of Elkins Jewelers.  She served as President of the Garden Club of Frederick and as Director, District V, Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland. Anne enjoyed music, performing as a vocalist with regional bands, and also enjoyed theatre and performed in numerous productions of the Fredericktowne Players, Octorian Theater Company, SAB Productions and the BC Players.  Additionally, she was an on-air co-host of ‘Young at Heart’.  Anne was a member and past President of the VFW 9-Holers, and an over 50 year member of ‘The Bridge Club’ and the ‘Saturday Night Crowd’.  She was a long time member of St John’s Roman Catholic Church, and recently attended St. Joseph’s Church in Buckeystown.

Anne is survived by her two sons, John Huntington Elkins and wife Kathy of Stowe, VT and Wellfleet, MA, and Jeff Elkins of Lake Linganore. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Dayna (Allen) Lindsey of Gaffney, SC, and Kelly (Richard) Burgoyne of Lancaster, MA, seven great- grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Always a devoted wife and mother, and a welcoming friend, she will be missed by many and remembered lovingly by all.

On Monday, March 28, the family will receive visitors from 5-7PM at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 29, at 10AM at St John’s Catholic Church, 118 E Second Street in Frederick. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery.
