Ruth M. Gilbert

They have traveled no farther from us than to God and God is always as near .as prayer.

Mrs. Ruth M. Ropp Gilbert, 92, of Frederick, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2015, surrounded by her family, at Homewood at Crumland Farms. She was the loving wife of the late Dorsey B. Gilbert, Jr., who died on August 8, 1996. Born in Middletown on October 7, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Lewis Ropp and Mollie Wadford Young.

Ruth was a graduate of Frederick High School Class of 1942. In her early years she had worked with her mother at the Chatta Box Restaurant, Frederick. She then worked for many years as the secretary for the family business, Gilbert's Auto Repair. She was a very active member at one time of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and also a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge # 347. She loved to shop and had a great love for her grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as Mam Maw.

Surviving her is one son, Dorsey B. "Bunk" Gilbert III and his wife Arletta, of Frederick, sisters, Betty L. Burkett, of Frederick and Norma Jean, grandsons, Dorsey B. Gilbert IV and wife Kim, of Middletown and Bryan D. Gilbert and special friend, Karen, of Frederick, two great grandchildren, Chloe and Austin Gilbert, and several nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by sister-in-law, Alma Moore, of Frederick. She was preceded in death by brothers, Lewis and Robert, and sister, Thelma.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, December 3, 2015, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown. Pallbearers will be: Lee Ropp, Vernon Burkett, Jeff Landis, Whitey Eichelberger Gary Rice and Mike Kelly.
