Mrs. Letteria Scipilliti Whirley, "Lily", passed away at her residence on October 30. She was the wife of the late Charles Louis Whirley, Jr. Born on September 22, 1930 in Messina, Sicily, she was the daughter of the late Francesco Scipilliti and Rosaria Runci Scipilliti. Mrs. Whirley was a homemaker and was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Ijamsville. Lily was an accomplished seamstress who did work for family and friends. Lily was especially known for her amazing Italian cooking. Family dinners were a weekly must and those who were lucky enough to try her food always raved. In addition, she was an avid duck pin bowler. For years, she opened her home on Monday nights to play poker, usually consisting of the same group of friends. She is survived by her children, Tina Luparello, Dare J. Baker and husband Douglas, Joseph T. Luparello and wife Rocio and Anna M. Abel and husband Lester, III; grandchildren Chad and Christopher Bellison, Scott Baker, Daren Lucas, Amanda and Maddie Abel as well as great-grandchildren Cameron Bellison, Tristen and Lane Baker, Max and Shealyn Chumberis and Piper Lucas. She is also survived by close friend Elisa Martinez and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Luparello, a son, Tommy Luparello, a granddaughter, Sarah Bellison, 5 brothers and 1 sister. She was the last in her immediate family. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 4, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM at Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, November 5 at 11:00 AM at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Road, Ijamsville, MD 21754. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
