Edith Marlene Hartman, 81, of Frederick, died on Friday, September 4 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born in Frederick on January 9, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Ray Hartman and Julia (Smith) Hartman. Ms. Hartman was a 1952 graduate of Frederick High School. She graduated from the Frederick Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1956 and began a long and rewarding career as a nurse at Frederick Memorial Hospital. More recently, at the end of her career, she was a nurse at Homewood Retirement Center, when it was located in downtown Frederick. Edith enjoyed sports, especially baseball. She would travel with her daughter to watch her grandson, Josh, play baseball. She was interested in and followed the Royal Family of London and enjoyed shopping. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Mathers and husband Robert of Baltimore, Grandson Josh Vittek and Step-Grandchildren Caitlin Mathers and Ryan Mathers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 8 from 6 to 8 PM at Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 9 at 11:00 AM at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 515 S. Market Street, Frederick. Those wishing to attend should assemble at the FSK Chapel by 10:50 AM for a procession to the graveside.
