Mr. Mehrl Foye Mayne, 94. of Buckeystown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of Janice Irene Potter Mayne, they were married for 65 years. Born in Washington, DC, on October 4, 1920, he was a son of the late Mehrl Lawson and Mary Helena Crum Mayne. Mehrl was a graduate of Montgomery Blair High School and the University of Maryland in 1942 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. He worked for the State of Maryland in the Japanese beetle control department during WW II. He had been a dairy farmer and retired as a District Sales Manager for Pioneer Seed Company. Mehrl went on to build a Christmas Tree Farm after retiring and developed Scotch pine seedlings that are disease resistant. He was one of the Founding Fathers of the Montgomery County Agricultural Center, Inc. He was a former member of the Maryland Air Quality Control Board and a 4-H leader in Montgomery and Frederick County for 35 years, and was a MD 4-H All Star. He was a member of the National Christmas Tree Association, and served on the board of directors. He was a member of the Frederick County Board Noxious Weed Control. He was a life member of the Lions Club and an active member of the Buckeystown United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Frances Mayne Wiles and husband Wayne, Ellen Mayne Mellott and husband Wayne, and Mehrl Franklin Mayne and fiancée', Julie Spencer, one brother, Kent C. Mayne, six grandchildren, Ashley Wayne Everett Wiles, Mehrl Jason Mayne, Leanne Nicole Phillips and Travis, Abigail Eileen Middleton Wiles, Stephanie Mellott and Evan Mellott, six great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward F. Mayne and daughter-in-law, Charlotte J. Mayne. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at the Buckeystown United Methodist Church, 3440 Buckeystown Pike. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, May 21, 2015, at the church, with the Rev. Cindy Caldwell officiating. Interment will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
