Amy Burdette Riggs, age 34, of Adamstown passed away unexpectedly in an automobile accident on March 9, 2015. She was born in Silver Spring, Maryland, on January 9, 1981. She was the loving wife of Jeremy Riggs and devoted mother to her "Bubba" Tyler and her "Bestfriendsie Forever" Lyla. She was preceded in death by her mother Susan Campbell Burdette, grandparents Lloyd and Helen Burdette, grandfather Jack Campbell, and uncle Ed Campbell. She is survived by her father and step mother, Terry and Barbara Burdette; sister Tara Harlin and husband Dan; brother Jimmy Burdette; sister Lisa Corrigan and husband Matt; sister Jen Abbamonte and wife Tracy Sims; brother Bryan Abbamonte and wife Claire. Amy took great pride in being an aunt to nieces Alexa, Madison, Ashley, Bethany, Natalie, and Caroline and nephew Harrison. She is also survived by her grandmother Rose Campbell, aunts and uncles Nancy and Peter Gallo, Gary and Jan Burdette, John and Barbara Campbell, Patti and Eddie Ribas, Dan and Maria Campbell. She is also survived by cousins Scott and Bobby Campbell, Nick, Stephen, and Patrick Ribas, and Sophia and Markos Campbell. She will be greatly missed by her mother in law Pam Riggs and sister and brother in law Angie and Geoff Waksmunski. And finally, she is survived by her enormous family of friends. Amy graduated from Walkersville High School in 1999. Amy attended Iona College and played softball for 4 seasons, graduating in 2003 with a degree in Accounting. She earned her CPA and worked for Ernst and Young and Fannie Mae as an Accountant and Financial Reporting Director over the past 12 years. Amy was a standout fastpitch softball pitcher, playing for the Frederick Heartbreakers travel team for 7 years. She also played for 4 seasons at Walkersville High School, winning 2 state championships. She set 2 Maryland state records for pitching, recording 23 wins and a 0.00 Earned Run Average in a season. She went on to play Division 1 softball at Iona College, where she was an All-Conference selection and won 31 games in her career. After finishing her playing career, Amy added coaching to her resume, working with the 10 and Under Heartbreakers, 18 and Under Heartbreakers, and Carroll Manor Tee-Ball. She also helped develop many young pitchers in the area through individual pitching instruction. The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-9pm on Friday, March 13, 2015 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10am on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at St. Timothy's Roman Catholic Church, 8651 Biggs Ford Road, Walkersville, Maryland. Interment will be private.
