Mr. Charles "Chuck" Leroy Kidd, III, 46, of Frederick, MD entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 8, 2014. Born in Frederick, MD on November 26, 1968, Chuck was the son of late Charles L. Kidd, Jr. and Brenda Lininger Brashears. He was also preceded in death by his aunt, Connie Kidd Main and paternal grandparents, Charles Leroy "Pap" Kidd, Sr. and Betty Jane Kidd. He is survived by his wife, Kriste Hartman Kidd, and sons Brian Kidd, Matthew Kidd and Kaden Kovarcik. Charles is also survived by three sisters, Tammy Kidd Lare and husband Charlie Lare, Barbie Kidd Junkin and husband George Junkin, and Jamie Kidd. He will be fondly remembered by his nieces, Taylor Kidd and Casey Junkin and nephews, Earl Huse, Little George Junkin and Hank Junkin. He will be missed by his Aunt Patty Kidd Smith and cousin, Wesley Smith. He will also be remembered by extended family, Betsy Kidd, Sunshine Anderson, Teresa Hoffman, Wendy Wages and Blaine Young as well as a myriad of friends and loyal bar customers. Chuck graduated from Frederick High in 1986 and worked at Long Fence and Harley Davidson before taking over the family business from his Pap. At 20 years old, Chuck took over the daily operations of Kidd's Cafe which later became The Canal Bar & Grill. Family owned and operated since 1948, The Canal Bar and Grill was the oldest family restaurant in Frederick County. He, along with his sisters Barbie and Jamie, his wife Kriste and dedicated bar staff who were like family, worked tirelessly to honor his Pap's legacy of the family restaurant. Chuck had a natural gift of gab and was often found behind the bar entertaining customers with his witty sense of humor and contagious laugh. He commonly told jokes and had favorite sayings including, "Wanna get away?", "Dammit boy!", "What had happened was..." or "Hey, hey, hey!" which easily brought smiles to many faces. Family was very important to Chuck and he enjoyed spending time with them. He seldom miss a football or basketball game of Matt and Brian's or one of Kaden's karate tournaments. Chuck often planned family vacations whether it was a weekend trip to a theme park or a week away at the beach. Most recently, a camping trip with his wife and sister inspired him to take up fishing again and riding bikes along the C&O Canal. Chuck and Kriste enjoyed traveling together and they created many wonderful memories visiting numerous places including San Diego, Jamaica and Punta Cana. His wish was to visit Scotland. His last holiday was Thanksgiving and Chuck was surrounded by those who loved him, his family. Happy moments and laughter were shared with his Aunt, cousin, sisters and nieces and nephews. In his spare time, Chuck enjoyed doing genealogy. He often told stories of the man who most inspired him, his Pap, and through genealogy, he learned more about Pap and his Kidd family ancestors. Chuck was a simple man who enjoyed good food, red velvet cake and ice cream and was unable to start his day without first reading the newspaper. He was commonly seen in front of The Canal Bar & Grill, as he smoked cigarettes, waved to passerbyers and chatted with downtown locals walking by. Driving around town, he was always tuned in to what he dubbed, "old man radio", The Blaine Young Show. Quick to help others, Chuck was the first to help a friend in need whether it was loaning them a few dollars or helping someone move. He had a giving heart and a sense of humor that won't easily be forgotten. Family will receive friends for visitation at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home on Friday, December 12th from 3PM to 5PM and 6PM to 8PM. A memorial celebration of Chuck's life will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, December 13th at 10AM. In the spirit that flowers are enjoyed only by the living, the family requests to honor Chuck's wishes of memorial contributions being made to the Mental Health Association of Frederick County at https://app.etapestry.com/hosted/mentalhealthassociationofF/onlinedonation.html or 226 South Jefferson Street, Frederick, MD 21701.
