Mrs. Lena Mae Johnson, 67, of Thurmont, died on October 31 at her residence. She was the wife of Edward Andrew Johnson. They were married on April 16, 1969. Born on August 10, 1947, she was the daughter of Frank Nichols and Nelly Mae Nichols nee Santos. Lena had a very kind heart and cared about people and their happiness. She would knit afghans and prayer shawls to donate to various nursing homes in Frederick County and also to the Cancer Center. Mrs. Johnson was employed by St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church as an administrative assistant for 22 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bingo and especially playing the slots in Charles Town, with much success. She loved to travel and her most favorite trip with her daughter Patricia was to see the Celine Dion show in Las Vegas. Lena found joy in decorating for the particular season and holiday, especially Christmas. She loved animals and will be missed by her special friend, her cat Isabella. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughter, Patricia Glass and her husband Tom. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 5 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 6 at 10:00 AM in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. Interment will be in Crownsville Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville, Maryland.
