Paul Carmack Summers

Mr. Paul C. Summers, Sr. 76, of Frederick, died unexpectedly on June 29 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Elaine Summers. Born on November 26, 1937, he was a son of the late Walter E. Summers, Sr. and Madeline Carmack Summers. Mr. Summers was an accomplished welder. He began his career with Frederick Welding Company prior to his graduation from Frederick High School. Paul later worked for R.W. Warner and finally at National Cancer Institute until his retirement in 2000. Mr. Summers retired weeks before the birth of his grand-daughter Amelia and was extremely involved in her life. He supported her in activities with 4-H and was a volunteer with the organization. They spent countless hours working in his garden and preparing 4-H projects and being together. He enjoyed building model steam engines and was additionally a journeyman plumber. His skill set was vast and many people sought him out for his expertise. Mr. Summers and his wife were frequent visitors to the Westminster Moose where they enjoyed dancing and fellowship with other couples they met there. Paul was a member of the Westboro Dance Club and was also a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by son Paul Summers, Jr. and his wife Catherine Irene and grand daughter Amelia Summers. Additionally, he is survived by sisters Nellie Redmond and her husband Chester, Edith Hamilton and Helen Main and her husband Donald as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Summers, Jr. and a brother-in-law John Hamilton. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 3 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the Funeral Home immediately following visitation. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. The family suggests memorial contributions to be made to Frederick County 4-H, ATTN: Jennie Schiazzi, 330 Montevue Lane, Frederick, MD 21702.
