Heinz Gerhard Wilms, 76, of Woodsboro, MD, died on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at home. He was the husband of Sue Ann (Mason) Wilms. Born in LeMars, Iowa on September 4, 1937, he was a son of the late Heinz H. and Wilma H. Krull Wilms. He was a Health Physicist employed with the Federal Government by the FDA. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Frederick, MD, the American Food and Drug Officials, as well as many other professional organizations. He also was a member of the Glade Valley Lions Club and the Frederick Elks Lodge. In earlier years, he was active with the PTA as well as coaching and refereeing soccer. The Wilms were a foster family for many babies. Heinz was a founding member and past president of the Maryland Alpaca Breeder's Association. He was also a founding member of the Mid-Atlantic Alpaca Breeder' Association and was active in the 4H Alpaca Program. Heinz was a very patriotic man who loved his country. Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Lisa L. Renn and husband Mark of Frederick, Matthew J. Wilms and wife Michelle of Woodsboro and Ann M. Tyler and husband Daryl of Frederick. Two brothers, Paul Wilms and wife Marguerite of NC, Mark Wilms and wife Lynne of MN; two sisters, Else Bonthius, Lynda Varner and husband Vernon, all of Iowa. Eight grandchildren, Jordyn and Andrew Renn, Evan and Kaily Johnson, Logan Wilms, Monica Tyler Bush and husband Robert, Sydney and Brady Tyler. Two great grandchildren, Carlie and Levi Bush and a sister-in-law, Marcia Benna and husband Burton, as well as many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, with the family receiving friends one hour prior to services.
