Earl Charles William Bere, Sr.

Mr. Earl Charles William Bere, Sr., 97, of Frederick, died on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at his residence. He was the husband of Margaret V. "Peggy" Bruchey Bere. Born on April 28, 1917, he was the son of the late Earl E. Bere and Alice H. Pearson. Before his retirement, Mr. Bere worked as an assistant horticulturalist at Fort Detrick. He was a member of the Braddock Lutheran Church. He enjoyed going on bus trips, bowling, hunting and fishing as well as working with plants in his greenhouse. Mr. Bere was also a fan of the Baltimore Orioles. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Earl W. Bere, Jr. and wife Marianna of Wolfsville, daughter, Carolyn A. White and husband Edward J. of Jefferson, grandchildren, Lauri Walz of Elkton, Bill Bere of West Virginia, Steven White of La Plata and Kevin Bere of Boonsboro, great-grandchildren, Kristin Walz, Julia Walz, Brooke Walz, Trent White, Colby White, Tyler Bivona, Cara Bere, Katie Bere, McKenzie Bere, Cameron Bere and Kylie Bere, special nieces, Sarah Bruchey and Ruth Scurto, special nephew, Willie Bruchey, many friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Helena Smith and Leona Brown and daughter-in-law, Bonnie Mae Bere. Friends will be received from 1 to 2pm, on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. The funeral service will follow at 2:00PM , in the Etchison Memorial Chapel, at the funeral home. Rev. Marina C. Flores, pastor of the Braddock Lutheran Church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Bill Bere, Kevin Bere, Steven White, Curtis Walz and nephews, Bill Bruchey, Rob Bruchey, Jim Bruchey, and Willie Bruchey. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Braddock Lutheran Church, 6442 S. Clifton Road, Frederick, MD 21703 or to Hospice of Frederick Co., P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
