Mr. George William Mooney, 53, of Frederick, died suddenly at Frederick Memorial Hospital due to an unexpected illness. Born on May 16, 1961 in Baltimore, he was the son of Iris M. (Barber) Mooney and the late George Roy Mooney. Mr. Mooney was a graduate of St. John's Catholic Prep High School and a graduate of Eckerd College. Upon his graduation, he entered into business in Lewes, Delaware with the company Beach Homes, Inc. He then moved to Boston, Massachusetts where he obtained his real estate license and worked as a realtor. In the Mid 1980's, he returned to Frederick, where he continued his career as a developer and architect. He had a passion and interest in the arts and reading and at one time attemped to found a partnership in researching and implementing wind power. Mr. Mooney was a member of St. John's Evangelical Catholic Church, was active in both Rotary and Chamber of Commerce. In his younger years, George found pleasure in painting and sculpting. A respected businessman and caring friend, he will be greatly missed by all. Mr. Mooney is survived by his mother, Iris M. Mooney of Naples, FL, brother Thomas Charles Mooney and his wife Ana of Miami, sister Annamarie Wampole and her husband Harlen of Middletown, nieces and nephews Ligia Mooney, Michelle Mooney, Christopher Mooney, Elizabeth Seidel and husband Benjamin, Catie Wampole and Emily Wampole, Aunts and Uncles Harold Barber and Dorothy, Marcielia Bracken and Susan Lingg and Jim and cousins Hal, Barbie, Trudy, Linda, Karen and Michael. He was preceded in death by his father, George Roy Mooney as well as his beloved companion, Missy. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 1 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. A Catholic prayer service will be held to conclude the visitation, at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, June 2 at 2:00 PM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 116 E. Second Street, Frederick. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
