Mr. Francis L. Walters, age 82 of Crestwood Village, Frederick, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the Kline Hospice House after a 13 year battle with cancer. He was the husband for 56 years of Carol R. Walters. Born on June 22, 1931 in Cuddy, PA he was the son of the late Frank and Anne Walters. Mr. Walters was a graduate of South Fayette High School. Following school he served in the US Army during the Korean War. He remained very active at the VFW Post 553 in Strabane, PA and held numerous offices with the VFW and the Veterans Council. He was a member at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg, PA and later at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Frederick. During his professional career, ranging from 1956 until 2003, he worked in the plumbing and heating industry. In retirement, Mr. Walters and his wife moved to Frederick to be closer to their family. Mr. Walters was the father of Michele W. Thornton and husband Michael L. of Frederick and Mary Ann Hill and husband Bradford E. of Annapolis; the grandfather of Gregory M. Thornton and wife Suzanne of Middletown, Dr. Amanda M. Thornton of West River, MD, Zachary E. Hill of Annapolis, and Brian C. Hill of Annapolis; and the great-grandfather of Madison Thornton. Mr. Walters is also survived by his two sisters, Dorothy Smelko and Mary Agnes Delphus. Friends will be received on Monday, April 7, 2014 from 3-5 and 7-9 PM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 E. 2nd St., Frederick on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 10 AM. The inurnment will follow at the St. John's Cemetery, Frederick.
