Shirlee Walker Schuettinger Price, resident of Frederick, Maryland, widow of Arthur George Schuettinger and Charles Urner Price, died on Tuesday, March 11, 2014. Mrs. Price was born in Brooklyn, New York, July 27, 1919, and was the daughter of the late Lester Shirley Walker and Kathryn Frances Hentschel. She graduated from the College of New Rochelle, New Rochelle, N.Y. and married Arthur Schuettinger ten days later. They then moved to a 150 acre dairy farm in Vergennes, Vermont, for eight years and then moved to Frederick, Maryland. They had both fallen in love with this part of the world, on a previous visit and this time a house was promptly purchased and Mr. Schuettinger started his own construction firm. Mrs. Price was president of the Newcomers Club and the Green-walled Garden Club, where she is still a member. She was also the chairman of the Snow Ball Committee for Frederick Memorial Hospital and an active auxiliary member for many years. After several years of volunteer activities, she started her career as a travel consultant with Boyer, Richards, Pardee, Frederick Travel and finally Antietam Travel Service, Inc., where she worked for the last 12 years. Mrs. Price traveled extensively, spending much time in India, Africa, China, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and most of South America and the United States. She also wrote a weekly column for 19 years called "Travel Happenings" for the Frederick News Post. In between she was an avid reader, enjoyed theater and her garden. Mrs. Price leaves three children and four grandchildren. Her beloved daughter Diane Lee Schuettinger of Frederick, Maryland; son, Arthur Leaster Schuettinger and his wife Sandra of Scottsdale, Arizona; son Bruce Michael Schuettinger and his wife Elizabeth Rankin of Thurmont, Maryland; grandsons Kurt Schuettinger of Atlanta, Georgia; grandson Charles Schuettinger of Stockholm, Sweeden; granddaughter Kathryn Schuettinger of Cambridge, Massachusetts and granddaughter Alison Schuettinger of New York City. Friends and family will be received on Friday, March 14, 2014 from 4-6pm at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, Maryland 21701. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 15, at 10am at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 118 E. 2nd Street, Frederick. Interment will be in Vermont.
