Beloved mother and friend, Avis M, Linton, 79, of Frederick, passed away December 25, 2013 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was born in Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire, England on August 4, 1934 to Frank and Ada Meakin, along with sisters, Margaret, Jean, Betty and Maureen and brothers, Stanley and Franklin. Avis left her home in England when she married Roy L. Linton, USAF of Frederick in 1954 then traveled to the United States to raise a family and become a citizen of this country - which was her ambition. Her one, surviving son, Jerry Linton was born in 1955. As a military family, they were able to travel to Europe, Japan, Hawaii and many states during the 20 years of service before retiring in Frederick in 1970. Avis was a trained, certified Cosmetologist but soon found her niche in the banking business with her career beginning at Frederick County National Bank, which lasted 25 years - receiving several awards for her service. She took extreme pride in everything she did. She was a valued long time member of the Frederick Moose Lodge, Ladies Auxiliary and never turned down the call to volunteer and help others. It was one of the many loves of her life. After changes in her life, she met Edwin Reading, a man that became her love and her final companion. Until his passing in 2004, the two of them were inseparable. Surviving extended family members and friends: Jerry Linton and Mary Callahan, Grandson Alex Linton and Christina, Donald C. Linton and Becky, Richard Linton and Karla, Shaun, Mindy, David Linton, Rebecca Linton, Michael Linton, Lori and Gene Kahn, Alice Linton, Shirley Linton Evans (deceased), Chrissy Evans, John Evans, Wayne Bentley, Lynne, Helen, Fern, MaryAnn, Deb and a long list of nieces and nephews. Avis came from a large family and as her life grew, so did her family and she made Frederick her home. The lives of those she touched will forever remember and embrace her. Avis, you will truly be missed. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 30 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, December 31, starting at 10:30 AM in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the Funeral Home. The Ladies Auxiliary of the Moose will open services and they will continue at 11:00 AM with Reverend Kenneth Dunnington officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
