Mr. Dale Francis Carter, 89, of Thurmont, died on Sunday, December 22, 2013, at the Frederick Memorial hospital. He was the loving husband of Doris Clark Carter. Born in York, Pennsylvania on May 15, 1924, he was the son of the late William R. and Emma Marie Bievenour Carter. Dale proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WW II. He was retired after working from 1945 to 1984 as a freight agent for the B & O and C & O Railroad, which became Chessie Systems. He was a member of Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, and an honorary life member of the Francis Scott Key American Legion Post # 11, where he was a past commander and served on many committees and held many different titles. He was also a member of the Voiture Local # 155, 40 & 8 Club. He was a former member of the VFW, Amvets and the Elks. In later years he enjoyed working in his garden and will be sadly missed by many friends. Surviving in addition to his wife is one son, Kenneth D. Carter and wife Patricia, of Brunswick and his granddaughter, Carolyn M. Carter, of Brunswick. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, December 26, 2013, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, December 27, 2013, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. Deacon John L. Manley, will officiate. The American Legion will conduct a memorial service on Thursday, at 7:30 p.m.,at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
