Mr. Robert Lee "Bob" Ray, 68, of Frederick, died Saturday, May 1, 2010, at his home. He was the husband of Rose Marie May Ray. They were married for 41 years. Born in Frederick, on Feb. 13, 1942, he was a son of the late Norman Elwood "Dutch" and Anna Louise Derry Ray. Bob was retired as a firefighter for the government at the Bethesda Naval Hospital. He was a member of the Buckeystown United Methodist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a life member of the Independent Hose Co. and served in many positions since joining in 1960. He was instrumental in the designing plans of the canteen unit and served as one of the drivers. In 2009, he received the President's Award for outstanding and dedicated service to the Independent Hose Co. and the citizens of Frederick County for 50 years of service. He was also inducted into the Frederick County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association Hall of Fame in April 2010. Bobby was also a life member of the Citizens Truck Co. 4 and served as the assistant chief. Surviving in addition to his wife is one son, Richard S. Ray of Frederick; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. The family received friends Tuesday at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 5, in Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Timothy S. May will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Independent Hose Co., 310 Baughman's Lane, Frederick, MD 21702.
