Rockne E. Murphy

Mr. Rockne Edward Murphy, 79, of Ijamsville, died Thursday, December 22, 2011, at Johns Hopkins Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted and loving husband of Lillian Irene Arnold Murphy, whom he married on May 5, 1962.

Born December 25, 1931 in Ijamsville, he was the son of Charles Edward and Mamie Eugenia Warfield Murphy. He was a 1950 graduate of Frederick High School.

A lifetime farmer in Ijamsville, he was a member of Frederick County Farm Bureau, and a faithful member of Saint Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Murphy is survived by three children, Barbara Ann Kromer and husband, Rick, of Rockville; Anita Marie Evans and husband, Zach, of Ijamsville; and John Edward Murphy, also of Ijamsville; and his loving grandson, Brandon Alexander Evans.

He also is survived by his brother, Casper C. Murphy, with whom he farmed; and one sister, Courtney Irene O'Connor, formerly of Jerome, Idaho and now residing in Alabama with her daughter. Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Ann Allen Murphy, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Murphy was predeceased by his daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) Irene Murphy in 2008; four brothers, Merhle Murphy and his wife, Mildred; Gene F. Murphy and his wife, Lucille; Wilfred C. Murphy and his wife, Mary Edith; and Harry A. Murphy; two sisters, Dorothy Belle Cunningham and her husband, Marion, and Mary Alice Thompson and her husband, Richard; a sister-in-law, Ruth Murphy; and a brother-in-law, Thomas O'Connor.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27 at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28 at Saint Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Road, Ijamsville, MD 21754, with Father Michael J. Jendrek as celebrant.

Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Ignatius Church at the above address.
