Mary Proud Cassidy

Mrs. Mary Proud "Snookie" Cassidy, 70, of Frederick, died Monday, May 3, 2010, at her home in Frederick. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Butch" Cassidy, who passed away April 1, 2009. She was born on May 13, 1933, and was the daughter of the late Elvus Wayne and Genevieve Proud. She was a native Washingtonian and worked for the U.S. Treasury before starting a family in 1957, and focusing all of her attention to making the best home she could for her family. She had a caring heart and was resolutely devoted to her family, friends and to God. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church. Surviving are four children, Donna L. Porreco and husband, Rocco, Robert J. Cassidy and wife, Ruth, and Daniel J. Cassidy and wife, Kathleen, all of Frederick, and David W. Cassidy and wife, Patty, of Gaithersburg; one sister, Grace Schutz, of Frederick; and five grandchildren, Ashley and Colleen Marcotte and Susanne, Kyle and Seamus Cassidy; as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her three siblings, John "Jack" Proud, Jeanne Sears and Donna Linehan. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, May 7, at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 E. Second St., Frederick. The Rev. Richard A. Gray will officiate. Mrs. Cassidy is to be carried to Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick by horsedrawn caisson. Arrangements are by Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.
