William &Quot;Bill&Quot; Burall

Mr. William (Bill) E. Burall, 84, of Frederick, died Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Northampton Manor Health Care. Born Dec. 16, 1925, near Monrovia, he was the son of the late Jesse M. and Flora Delauter Burall. Mr. Burall farmed the family farm for a number of years. After retiring from farming, he worked for and retired from Charles Rivers Laboratory, Fort Detrick, after 21 years. For about 25 years, Mr. Burall played baseball and softball on area teams. He managed the New Market baseball club for about 10 years. Mr. Burall was a longtime member of the New Market Grange for more than 60 years. He served as master of the New Market Grange, master of Frederick County Pomona Grange, master of the Maryland State Grange and was a member of the National Grange. In addition, he was a member and chairman of the grange advisory committee to Farmers and Traders Life Insurance Co. He served as director of the Maryland State Fair Board for a number of years. Mr. Burall also was appointed to the Maryland Agricultural Commission. He was a member of the Maryland Land Preservation Board of Trustees and the Grange-Farm Bureau Joint Tax Study Committee. For several years he served as secretary of the Farmers' Cooperative Association. He also served as a member and chairman of the former Frederick County Metropolitan Sanitary Commission. The Burall family was recognized for shipping milk to the Maryland/Virginia Milk Association for 50 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 1067, Frederick, where he served as past president, treasurer and as a trustee for a number of years. Mr. Burall was the only twice-elected president of the Maryland State Eagles. He also served as state treasurer and was a member of the National Fraternal Order of Eagles. Mr. Burall was a lifelong member of the Bush Creek Church of the Brethren in Monrovia. He is survived by one son, Mark E. Burall of Frederick; three daughters, Vicki E. Boyd of Brownsville, Linda S. Phelps and husband, Charles, of Bartonsville, and Lisa A. Burall of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one brother, Leroy Burall and wife, Vern, of New London; two sisters, Addie Mae Null of Frederick and Joyce Barnhard and husband, the Rev. Fred Barnhard, of Arcanum, Ohio. Mr. Burall also leaves behind four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Burall was preceded in death by his brother, Jesse I. Burall. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 17, from Bush Creek Church of the Brethren, 4821A Green Valley Road, Monrovia. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to services. Officiating will be the Rev. Charles G. Beekley. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Serving as bearers will be Brant A. Myers, Stephen C. Boyd, Robbie Wenner, Mark Burall Jr., Donald Abrecht and Victor Mireles. Honorary bearers will be Bill Owens and R. Christopher Goodwin.
