Celebrating the Life of Amanda Coté

It is with profound sadness and love that I announce the passing of Amanda Coté, my devoted wife, love of my life, and my best friend. She was 48 years old and lived in New Market, Maryland. Amanda departed peacefully on September 24, 2025, at Johns Hopkins Hospital with me at her side.

Her Life and Legacy

Born on December 9,1976, in Ocala, Florida, Amanda grew up with a spirit of kindness, generosity, and warmth that touched everyone she met. She knew in the 5th grade that she wanted to be a teacher when she was asked to help younger students. That began her journey as a lifelong learner.

Amanda received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Secondary Education from St. Leo University in 2000 and began teaching at various schools around Tampa, Florida. She eventually left teaching to move back home to support her mother who was battling cancer. She worked at Sylvan Learning Center and in time became a Director of Education.

The next step in Amanda’s educational journey was to get a Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University in 2006. She had a dream to start a counseling practice that never materialized. Instead, she ended up teaching college courses online.

Amanda married me (Bill) on December 17, 2006, after meeting at a Sylvan Learning Center in Saint Petersburg, Florida, beginning our partnership filled with love and understanding. Together, we built a life rich in memories, laughter, and mutual support. We eventually ended up in Maryland with a brief stop in North Carolina along the way.

The final step in Amanda’s educational journey was to get her Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Psychology from Walden University in 2020. Her final job was with Global Logic on a contract with Google to train AI models. Her dissertation was on adult learner success and emotional intelligence, so she joked that she wanted to teach the AI some EI before it became self-aware and wiped us out like the terminator movies. She would say, “Remember, Genisys is Skynet”.

Family and Friends

Amanda is survived by her loving husband, Bill; her stepdaughter, Hannah, and her husband Gregg; and her grandchildren, Mikey, Ali, Tommy, and Patti. She will also be dearly missed by her extended family, close friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Passions and Interests

Amanda loved reading and enjoyed watching movies from our collection. She loved action, science fiction, and Jane Austin movies. She even made me a fan of our Jane Austin collection. Amanda found joy in giving handmade cards, gifts, and her time talking with friends.

A Lasting Impact

The legacy Amanda leaves behind is one of love, kindness, and strength. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, inspiring us to lead lives infused with the same grace and compassion she so effortlessly embodied.
