Amy Suzanne Masley, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, after an 18 month battle with lung cancer, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 58 years old.
Born on September 23, 1967, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Amy was the beloved daughter of the late Stephen and Emma Masley. Raised in a close and caring family, she carried the values of kindness, creativity, and perseverance throughout her life.
Amy was a dedicated student and lifelong learner. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Chatham College in Pittsburgh and later her master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Loyola University in Baltimore. She built a meaningful career as a managed healthcare professional, where she was known for her intelligence, diligence, and deep concern for the wellbeing of others. More recently, Amy found her true calling as an anatomy and physiology lab instructor at Howard Community College, where she discovered how much she loved teaching and mentoring students. Her students loved her whimsical lectures and remember her as patient, encouraging, and always generous with her time and knowledge.
Above all, Amy’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 35 years, Curt Schreffler. She was a loving mother to her daughter Emily Schreffler (Nick Kaye) and to her son Andrew Schreffler (Abby Pfingsten.) Amy took immense pride in the people her children have become and delighted in every milestone of their lives.
Amy is also survived by her loving sister Kate Masley (Regis Bane), and by her lifelong closest friend and cousin Robyn Stefanyak. She leaves behind many other cherished relatives and friends, each of whom was touched in some way by her warmth, loyalty, and kindness.
Those who knew Amy will forever remember her beautiful smile, her wonderful and contagious laugh, her love of the Bee Gees/ABBA and her dancing routines. She had a competitive nature and loved playing Scrabble and completing puzzles. Amy loved traveling with Curt and her family and friends. She especially enjoyed visiting Europe. A lover of dogs, Amy’s home was never complete without a canine companion, and the dogs in her life were as devoted to her as she was to them.
Amy faced her illness with quiet courage and grace, never allowing it to dim her concern for others. She continued to show interest in her friends and in her family even in the midst of treatment, exemplifying the selflessness that defined her life.
Amy will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy lives on in the lives she shaped, the students she inspired, and the family she adored.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to share stories, laughter, and gratitude for the time they had with her. In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Amy’s generous spirit, the family asks that you make a donation to a charity of your choice.
