Barbara Anne McClafferty

Barbara A. McClafferty, 70, of Frederick, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born June 5, 1956, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Gene and Ruth Hughes. Barbara was married to the late William James McClafferty III for 25 years, and together they raised the four children who became her greatest joy. In later years, she found continued love and companionship with her partner of 16 years, Michael Krouse.

Barbara faced life with a ready laugh and a smile that could light up a room. She had a green thumb and a deep love of gardening, finding joy and peace in watching things grow. But above all, she was devoted to her family, which was her greatest pride and the center of her world. She cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren, and her laughter and love live on in each of them.

Barbara is survived by her children, Jimmy McClafferty, Kate McClafferty (Travis Roahrig), Michelle McClafferty (Stephen Ungvary), and Mark McClafferty (Amanda Smith); her grandsons, Elliott and Timothy Roahrig; her granddaughter, Dorothy Ungvary; her siblings, Steve Hughes, Mary Lou Macgregor, Gene Hughes, Gerry Hughes, and Margaret French; and nieces and nephews who will carry her memory forward.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. Inurnment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
