Betty Davis Jeffers passed away on May 7, 2026 at the age of 95 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late R. Leslie Davis and J. Marie Purdum Day Davis. She was the wife of Mark P. Jeffers for 75 years.
Betty graduated from Frederick High School in 1948. Following graduation, she worked at Potomac Edison. Later she was employed at New Market Elementary School, first as an aide and later as the ten-month secretary until her retirement in 1997 after 30 plus years.
Betty and Mark married on January 20, 1951, at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church in Urbana, Maryland. After Mark's discharge from the service, they returned to Monrovia, eventually moving into the house that Mark built and where she lived for the rest of her life.
Betty was active at St. Ignatius serving on various committees. She was a member of the Sodality and sang in the church choir for over 70 years. For many years she was in charge of organizing the Manor Woods Picnic dinners. Betty also bowled with the Lion/Lioness Bowling League. Betty loved traveling to Myrtle Beach with her family and friends and taking road trips with her husband and friends. Dancing was a favorite activity, and she and Mark had quite the reputation as wonderful dancers at the Saturday night dances they attended. Betty was an extraordinary cook and enjoyed cooking not just for family and friends but for church functions as well.
In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by her daughters Leslie and Teresa. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Linda Broadrup, Stephen Stup (Jeanette) and Judy R. Stup. Other survivors include many great and great-great nieces and nephews whom she loved. Her family was very important to her.
Betty was preceded in death by sisters and brothers-in-law Laura Helen Stup (George) and Alice Hevner (Cliff), nephews and nieces Larry Stup (Judy), Darryl Stup, Alison Stitely, and Robert Broadrup.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 14 from 4-7 PM at Keeney Basford Funeral Home 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, Maryland. A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 15 at St. Ignatius of Loyola (historic) Catholic Church 8817 Urbana Church Rd., Urbana with Rev. Brian Nolan officiating. Interment will follow at the historic church in Urbana.
