Carl Wilson Lenhart

Carl W. Lenhart was born in Frederick, MD. on June 23, 1947 to Edna May Waltz Lenhart and Harry C. Lenhart and passed peacefully on August 26, 2026.

Carl graduated from Frederick High School in 1965 and joined the Marine Corps in 1966. He served three tours in Vietnam and remained in active duty until an injury at Martins Air Field required early retirement in 1979. Carl earned a number of awards and commendations during his military service.

Following his retirement, Carl began a career in Civil Service. He held many positions within the Federal Government, although he was especially proud of serving as Special Assistant to the Commanding General of Ft. Detrick, dividing his time with offices at Ft. Detrick and the Pentagon.

Carl dedicated his life to the Marine Corps and to the service of others through volunteering and memberships in various Veterans Organizations. In connection with this volunteer service, he held positions at both local and state levels earning awards throughout the years.

Following his departure from the military, Carl raised two nieces through guardianship, Susan Ferguson and Sherry Burgee. He was devoted to his grandchildren and his many nieces and nephews. Carl is survived by brothers Donald, James and Bernard. He is predeceased by siblings Howard Jean, Harry, Shirley, Ruth Ellen, Audrey, Harold and by his great-granddaughter Charlotte Blue.

In honor of his wishes, the family will not hold a formal service, though there will be an informal gathering for the sharing of stories and fond memories at Keeney and Basford Funeral Homes 106 East Church Street, Frederick MD. on September 9th from 4-7 pm.

At his request, in lieu of sending flowers, a small donation or volunteering time at a Veterans Organization would be gratefully appreciated and a lovely tribute to his life.
