Carol Louise Martz

May 8, 1941 — August 12, 2025

Frederick

Carol Krantz Martz passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, at the age of 84. She was born in Frederick, Maryland, to the late Charles Leo Krantz and the late Marguerite Elizabeth Kerchner. She was the loving and devoted wife of Franklin W. Martz, who predeceased her in 2012.

Carol was a proud graduate of Frederick High School’s class of 1959 and equally proud to be a 1963 graduate from the University of Maryland. After college, she worked at Clorox until she and Frank started raising their three kids. She later sold real estate and was so proud to help so many Frederick families through that process.

She is survived by her children, Franklin W. Martz, II (Nicole), Michelle M. Martz (David), and Daniel P. Martz (Terrie). Carol grew up in Frederick, and her large extended family, who enjoyed regular family “get-togethers,” were a constant source of pride and joy.

Carol was the steadfast cheerleader to Frank and her three children, spending countless hours supporting local youth sports, recitals, and community charity events. Kids, friends, and family were regularly in and out of their Third Street home. Whether it was friend or family, Frank and Carol’s home and dinner table always had a place for one more. Carol was a devoted wife and amazing mom; she was always in your corner and always a consummate lady. During her life, Carol was a giver. Not just to her family and friends, but to her local Frederick community. She was a proud “Fredericktonian.”

Always one quick to help, Carol was active in many community organizations throughout her life. These included various school PTA groups and sports boosters, Heart Association, Frederick Hospital Auxiliary, Frederick Women’s Civic Association, Frederick County Association of Realtors, “lady” Lions Club, Job’s Daughters, and later the Order of the Eastern Star, and many other local efforts. Carol even served, at times, as a docent for local historical events. And of course, Carol always loved the Great Frederick Fair and was a life member of the Frederick County Agricultural Society. Inc. Carol was raised in the Grace United Church of Christ, where she and Frank were married and raised their children. Later in life, Carol joined the Catholic faith and was a member of St John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Second Street.

In addition to her three children, Carol is survived by grandchildren: Ethan Daniel Martz (Avery), Reed Nathaniel Martz, McKenzie Elizabeth Martz, Wyatt Cannon Garr (Taylor), and Madison Julie Sandifer (Ryan); and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister Jane Krantz Tomaszewski. She also leaves behind many beloved cousins, classmates, and friends, all of whom she dearly cherished.

The family is grateful for the wonderful care she received in her later years.

Services for Carol will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St John Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118. E 2nd St, Frederick, MD 21701. Interment will be later, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Franklin W. Martz Youth Baseball Fund, in C/O The Community Foundation of Frederick County, 312 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701.
