Cynthia Anne Galloway passed away on March 12, 2026 in Maryland. Cindy is the beloved wife for 44 ½ years of Keith Andrew Galloway.
Cindy was born on December 29, 1956 to the late Mary Ellen Cunningham Smathers and the late Walter Allison Smathers in Belmont County, Ohio in a third-generation coal miners’ family.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree in education from West Liberty College, WVA and her Master’s degree in education from West Virginia University. She is an Alpha Delta Pi Sorority sister. Cindy devoted her adult life to enhancing the lives of others through teaching elementary students and performing musically. Her education career began as an elementary school teacher for four years in Marshall County, West Virginia followed by thirty-six years as an educator for the Montgomery County Maryland public school system.
When not in the classroom, she could be found accompanying on the piano at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Rockville, MD. for ten years then at St. Joseph on Carrollton Manor Roman Catholic Church, MD. for the following twenty-six years as well as sharing her musical talents with elementary school productions.
In what little free time Cindy had not serving others, she enjoyed hiking, camping, bicycle riding and searching out frog collectibles.
In addition to her devoted husband, Cindy is survived by her sister Monica Matthews, her mother -in-law Rosalie J. Galloway, her sisters-in-law; Vandy Galloway Holman (Dave) and Emily Emerson Smathers, as well as her nieces and nephews; Kim Smathers, Laura Smathers, Kassandra Olgers, Kristen Katona, Michelle Steffens, Jeff Smathers and Jordan Mersky.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday March 20 from 2:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Keeney & Basford Funeral Homes, P.A. 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD. 21701. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, March 21, 2026 12:00 p.m. at St. Joseph on Carrollton Manor Church, 5843 Manor Woods Road, Frederick, MD. 21703. Interment will be privately held.
